I read Tolkien's The Hobbit in high school and hated it. It could have been that it was for an assignment, because books are never as enjoyable when you have to read them for a grade and within a time limit. It could have just been the excessive descriptions of walking. Maybe I just didn't get it. Maybe it wasn't the right time.

So, ignorantly, I didn't give The Lord of the Rings a chance until I heard about the movies, and figured I really should see what the fuss was about. And of course I didn't even get past the Tom Bombadil part without asking what the heck was going on, and why were there so many characters that sounded alike.

Enter Peter Jackson. Oh thank Pete. Because not only did he put the perfect faces to all those names and explain everything, he did it with all the power, emotion and grace worthy of a record breaking, award winning, incomparable set of films. And he did it at a time in my life when I was at the end of my rope, when I needed to be told to hang in there, and that there is always hope. Because of that, these books and the films are dear to me in a way I can only express through my artwork. Needless to say, I've read the books a few times over now, and will reread them as many more times as it takes to remind myself to keep going.

My art is all I have to offer as a humble fan, but there it is. Every piece here is dedicated to Tolkien, Pete and his entire team for making it real.
