- I consider myself more of an
illustrator than a fine artist. That is, I like drawing from
other people's ideas. I had a lot of picture books as a child,
and even then the pictures were more important. If I didn't like
the pictures, I didn't want the book. Yet I was profoundly influenced
by the artwork I did see in books and from movies. I grew up
idolizing the works of Brian Fraud, Robin James (illustrator
of the Serendipity Books), Wesley Dennis (primary illustrator
for Marguerite Henry), among many others. I've found inspiration
in everything from Disney to Drew Struzan's famous movie posters
for Star Wars and Indiana Jones.
- At the core though, having
an obsessive nature has simply made me a huge fan of many things.
Books, movies and TV, the people who make them come to life,
all of these are things I love to draw inspiration from. To me,
it's much more interesting than anything I dream up on my own.
